William Moses (Will) Slaton was the son of Francis Marion (Frank) Slaton and Mary Anne Moore of Jefferson County, Tennessee. Frank Slaton was the brother of my second great grandmother Susan A. Slaton who married my second great grandfather Joseph Harrison.
Will Slaton and his brother John Thomas Slaton "went west". They moved first to Kansas, and then to California. John remained in California but Will Slaton moved back east. Except that he moved to Ohio rather than back to Tennessee. Slatons still living in Jefferson County, Tennessee remember that Uncle Will used to visit occasionally from Ohio.
I received this data from Rebecca (Slaton) Uldrich, who in turn received it from John B. Slaton. John B. Slaton is Will Slaton's grandson.

Sarah May (May) Reneau was born in Missouri. Her parents were James Lewis Reneau and Martha L. Broderick of Jefferson County, Tennessee. Apparently, some of the Reneaus of Jefferson County went west with the Slatons. I also have Reneau ancestors in Jefferson County, but May Reneau is a collateral line. Will Slaton and May Reneau were married in Harper County, Kansas. James Arthur (Arthur) Slaton was born in Harper County, Kansas and he was May's only child. May died two weeks after Arthur was born. Arthur was raised by May's sister Nancy Careen (Carrie) Reneau and by Carrie's husband John W. Hamm. Arthur remained in Kansas when his father Will moved to California. |
