These pages are from scans of Jefferson County Cemeteries, Vol. II by David Templen and Cherel Henderson. In addition, I have made several personal visits to the cemetery to collect information. For a number of the families, I have added information which is not available from the cemetery tombstones.
The cemetery is in the Shady Grove community. Shady Grove is on Douglas Dam Road about midway between Dandridge and State Route 66. The cemetery is on a hill just above the road. From the cemetery, there is a spectacular view of Douglas Lake (nee French Broad River) with the Smoky Mountains in the background. Douglas Dam Road parallels the lake, running from downtown Dandridge to State Route 66 in Sevier County. State Route 66 connects I-40 with Sevierville.

This is John Wesley Solomon and Rhoda Rebecca (Becky) Harrison. Becky Harrison was the daughter of my second great grandparents Joseph Harrison and Susan A. Slaton. Becky was the sister of my great grandmother Nancy Virginia (Nannie) Harrison who married William Harley (Harley) Bryan. John Wesley Solomon and Rhoda Rebecca (Becky) Harrison were married 13 Nov 1892.

Lester Floyd Solomon was the son of John W. Solomon and Becky Harrison. He was accidentally shot and killed by a playmate.

This appears to be the mother of J.W. Solomon, and the grandmother of John Wesley Solomon who married Becky Harrison. She was Nancy J. Hickey, and she married Sterling Solomon 4 Feb 1846 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. I do not know where Sterling Solomon is buried.

Rufus Walker Solomon appears to be the son of J.W. and Sarah C. Solomon, and the brother-in-law of Becky Harrison. In any case, he married Della Chambers and they had Ruby Eugenia Solomon, Loraine Solomon, and the twin boys.

Francis Marion (Frank) Slaton was the son of Thomas Fielden Slaton and Rebecca Frances George. Mary Anne Moore was the daughter of John Chaney Moore and Amanda Melseany Miller. Frank and Mary were married 16 Jan 1870. 9th Tenn Cav. was a Union unit in the Civil War.

John A. Slaton was the son of Thomas Fielden Slaton and Rebecca Frances George. He froze to death in the Civil War. I suspect that he is not really buried in Shady Grove Cemetery, but that this is a memorial marker instead. The 9th Tenn Cav. was a Union Unit.

Roscoe M. Slaton was the son of Amanda Melzina (Mandy) Slaton, who in turn was the daughter of Francis Marion Slaton and Mary Anne Moore. Mandy Slaton married Silas A. Bryan, but I am not sure that Silas was the father of Roscoe. Roscoe may have been born before Silas and Mandy were married. I do not know what Roscoe's military service really was that was indicated on his stone. It seems likely that it was WWI.

Thomas Fielden Slaton and Rebecca Frances George were the ancestors of all the early Slatons in Jefferson County. They moved to Jefferson County from Stokes County, North Carolina in about 1847. They were married in Stokes County 14 Feb 1840. They were my third great grandparents. My Slaton line is their daughter Susan Slaton who is buried at Shady Grove, but who is buried with the Harrisons rather than with the Slatons. The rest of the Slatons buried at Shady Grove are descended from Susan's brother Francis Marion (Frank) Slaton, with the exception of Frank's brother John, who probably really isn't buried at Shady Grove anyway.

Mary Sue Moore was not in the Jefferson County Cemeteries book. I found the information on a personal visit to the cemetery. She was the daughter of John Robert Moore and Harriet S. (Hattie) Harrison. She married a Mr. Wolfe, but I do not have his given name.
