Rosella Kaylor age 15 married Richard Elzie Dillavou Sr. before 1934. Richard was the son of Elza George (Elzie) Dillavou and Nora Vivian Belcher. Nora's second husband was William Carlos (Carlos) Bryan. Therefore, Richard Dillavou Sr. was the stepson of Carlos Bryan, and Richard Dillavou Jr. was the step grandson of Carlos Bryan. I have spoken with Richard Dillavou Jr., and he is the source of most of my information on this branch of the family. Carlos Bryan was the son of Silas Anderson Bryan and Amanda Melzina (Mandy) Slaton. Uncle Silas was the son of my second great grandparents William Allen (Will) Bryan and Malissa E. Underwood. As such, Uncle Silas was the brother of my great grandfather William Harley (Harley) Bryan. Aunt Mandy was the daughter of Francis Marion (Frank) Slaton and Mary Anne Moore. As such, Aunt Mandy was the niece of my second great grandmother Susan A. Slaton. Carlos "went west" from Sevier County, Tennessee sometime between 1910 and 1920, and was enumerated in the 1920 census in Imperial County, California. A couple of Mandy Slaton's brothers had settled in Imperial County in the early 1900's, and Carlos apparently was joining his uncles when he moved to California. |

Weber Marcus Jones age 49 was the son of Jerusa Jane Gaut and James Graves Jones. Jerusa was the daughter of John J. Gaut and Margaret Angeline (Angeline) Bryan. Angeline was the daughter of my fourth great grandparents Thomas C. Bryan Sr. and Nancy Cate. As such, Angeline was the sister of my third great grandfather Peter H. Bryan. Weber's wife was Theodora (Theo) Genung age 49. Theo was the daughter of James Edgar Genung and Abbie Jane (Jessie) Gerrish. Abbie's second husband was Weber's brother Lt. Arno Wedmore Jones. So Weber married his brother's stepdaughter. |

Arthur C. Wells age 42 was the son of Phillip Hancher Wells and Phillip's first wife Sarah J. Minge. Phillip married second Ida Rhoda Cole. Aunt Ida was the daughter of my second great grandparents William (Will) Cole and Vesta Clay (Vestie) England. As such, Aunt Ida was the sister of my great grandmother Salle Jane Cole. I have not been able to find any concrete evidence for the surname of Arthur's wife Mary age 40, nor have I been able to find a courthouse marriage record. I have found an undocumented GEDCOM on the Internet that says that her name was Mary Agnes Reser. It seems likely that they were married in Michigan after Arthur moved from Tennessee to Michigan. |

In 1930, Nora Vivian Belcher age 39 was the widow of Elza (Elzie) Dillavou, son of John Dillavou and Emma. Nora's second husband was William Carlos (Carlos) Bryan. Nora and Carlos were married about 1932. Carlos was the son of Silas Amberson Bryan and Amanda Melzina (Mandy) Slaton. As such, Carlos was the nephew of my great grandfather William Harley (Harley) Bryan and the grandnephew of my second great grandmother Susan A. Slaton. Therefore, Carlos was the first cousin of my grandfather Emmert Oral Bryan as a Bryan, and Carlos was Emmert's second cousin as a Slaton. Richard Dillavou age 22 was the son of Nora and her first husband Elzie Dillavou. Catherine Belcher age 8 was not Nora's daughter as this census entry indicates. Rather, Catherine was the daughter of Nora's brother Osmond Theron Belcher and Osmond's wife Esther Sopp. Osmond, Esther, and their son Osmond Jr. were killed in a plane crash in 1924. Osmond was an early aviation pioneer, and had designed the plane that crashed. Catherine was deemed to have been too young to go in the plane with the rest of the family, so she was orphaned by the crash. Subsequently, Catherine was raised by her Aunt Nora and by Carlos Bryan. Carlos cannot be located in the 1930 census. It is known that Carlos and Nora lived together before they were married. Perhaps Carlos was already living with Nora at the time of the 1930 census, but arranged not to be enumerated so that their living arrangement would not be made known to the census bureau. |

Harold F. Popperwell age 9 married Leola Lucretia Bray on 25 Jul 1959 in Clark County, Nevada. Leola was the daughter of Charles Lee (Charlie) Bray and Kathleen Haven Reed. Charles Lee (Charlie) Bray was the son of my great grandmother Mary Mahala Jane (Mahala or Haley) Bray and her first husband William George Washington Green. As such, Uncle Charlie was the half-brother of my grandmother Lola Ethel Williamson. Harold F. Popperwell was the son of Harold C. Popperwell age 29 and Irene P. Garris age 27. |
