Solomon Cross was the son of Joel Cross and Susannah Moore. His wife was Mary Hicks. I believe that Solomon's father Joel was the son of Zachariah Cross and Elizabeth Ann Dimmitt of Baltimore County, Maryland. Zachariah in turn was the son of John Cross and Dinah Lane, and John Cross and Dinah Lane are my line. The real significance of this census entry is that Solomon was born in North Carolina. A number of Crosses who lived in North Carolina and later moved to Tennessee appear to be a part of my Cross family from Baltimore County, Maryland. But my direct line moved from Baltimore County, Maryland to Sullivan County, Tennessee. I have been trying to figure out if any of the Crosses who came to Tennessee by way of North Carolina were originally from the same Baltimore County family. Apparently, they were. Additionally, members of the Worthington family of Anderson County, Tennessee were living near Solomon Cross. The Worthingtons were colleagues of Brittain Cross of Anderson County, and Brittain Cross had an child born out of wedlock with Lettice Tunnell Worthington of Anderson County. I have been trying to figure out where (and if) Brittain fits into the Cross family of Baltimore County. Perhaps the presence of Baltimore-to-North Carolina Crosses in Dade County, Georgia with the Worthingtons of Anderson County, Tennessee is a clue. |

James Worthington was from the Worthingtons of Anderson County, Tennessee. However, his branch had moved to Warren County, Tennessee where he was born 27 Jun 1824. His parents were Samuel Worthington and Mary (Polly) Barnes. Nancy Emmaline Faulkner was the daughter of Asa Faulkner. James and Nancy were married 21 Jul 1846 in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee. They apparently moved to Georgia about 1849. |

Lunsford Worthington was the son born out of wedlock of Lunsford Oliver and Lettice Tunnell. At the time of Lunsford's birth, Lettice was Lettice Worthington, widow of James Worthington. My interest in Lettice Tunnell is that she also had an out of wedlock child with Brittain Cross of Anderson County, Tennessee. |
