Riley Wheeler was the son of Smith Wheeler and Mary (Polly) Cox. As such, Riley was the grandson of my fourth great grandparents Reuben Cox and Susannah Padgett. Rebecca Garrett was the daughter of Eli Garrett and Elizabeth (Betsy) Jones. Even though Rebecca Garrett was from North Carolina and she married into the Cox family that was from North Carolina, she seems to have come from a different part of North Carolina than did the Coxes (Guilford County vs. Wilkes County). |
