Margaret Messamore was the daughter of John Messamore and Elizabeth (Betsy) Minton. John Messamore was the brother of my third great grandmother Anna F. Messamore, so Margaret was Anna's niece. I'm a little suspicious of Margaret's birth place of Indiana. I think the family was still in Tennessee at the time of Margaret's birth. |

John Messamore was the son of my fourth great grandparents William/Wilhelm Messamore and Margarethe Elizabeth (Peggy) May. As such, John was the brother of my third great grandmother Anna F. Messamore. The Messamores were in Knox County, Tennessee in the 1830 census. John, his sister Anna, and their brother James were all married in Knox County. James moved to Anderson County before 1840, as did Anna and her husband Edward Payne Bray. John has not been located in the 1840 census, but he was enumerated in the 1850 census in Roane County, Tennessee. John moved to Illinois about 1852. Elizabeth (Betsy) Minton was the daughter of Ebenezer Minton and Elizabeth Fletcher. Elizabeth Minton and John Messamore were married in Knox County, Tennessee on 4 May 1827. The name of the youngest son as listed in the census is interesting. His name was Charles Tallifero (Tallifero) Messamore. I'm guessing that "Tallifero" is pronounced "Tolliver", and that the census enumerator wrote down "Oliver" rather than "Tolliver". |

I believe Ruth Lucinda Morris married Calvin M. Messamore. There is a certain amount of uncertainty about this issue. In any case, Ruth's parents were Reuben A. Morris and Sarah (Sally) Anderson. |
