John Messamore Sr. moved from Tennessee to Illinois in about 1852, thereby founding the Messamore family in Union County.  John was the brother of my third great grandmother Anna F. Messamore.  John married first Elizabeth (Betsy) Minton on 24 Apr 1827 in Knox County, Tennessee.  He was 78 years old when he married second Martha Stafford on 15 Sep 1879 in Union County.

There were four siblings in the family: John Messamore Sr., James Messamore Sr., Malinda Messamore, and Anna F. Messamore.  James, Malinda, and Anna remained in Tennessee.  However, several descendants of James did move to Union County a couple of decades after John moved to Union County in 1852.  So not everyone in Union County named Messamore was descended from John.  Also, several of the Messamores ended up in counties adjacent to Union County, so not every Messamore in Illinois lived in Union County.
