Ahaz W. Bryan Jr. married Mary J. Jones on 30 Aug 1865 in Missouri. Ahaz's wife was born 24 Jan 1842 in Indiana, and her father was born in Virginia. I do not have proof positive, but Mary Jones age 6 from this census entry seems to be the most likely candidate to have been Ahaz's wife. I would be happier with this conclusion if the birth date of Ahaz's wife was a little better match with birth date of Mary from this census entry. It seems likely that the date of birth for Ahaz's wife is taken from her tombstone. Some censuses for Ahaz's wife after she was married suggest she was born in 1843 or 1844 rather than in 1844. So the slight mismatch in birth dates is not a fatal flaw. Ahaz W. Bryan Jr. was the son of Ahaz W. Bryan Sr. and Mary J. (Polly) Webb. Ahaz Sr. was the nephew of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan and the first cousin of my fourth great grandfather Thomas C. Bryan Sr. Hansford H. Jones married first June or Jane Adair on 15 Aug 1841 in Franklin County, Indiana. He married second Permelia Scott on 8 Mar 1846 in Franklin County, Indiana. It seems clear that Mary's mother was June or Jane Adair, but Jones researchers list Mary's mother as Permelia Scott. The date of Hansford Jones' first marriage plus Mary's age in this census entry suggest that if this Mary Jones was the one who married Ahaz Bryan, then she was really born in 1843 or 1844 rather than in 1842. |
