Arthur J. Slaton was the son of William Moses (Will) Slaton and Sarah May (May) Reneau. Both Will Slaton and May Reneau were from Jefferson County, Tennessee. Will Slaton was the son of Francis Marion (Frank) Slaton and Mary Ann Moore, and hence was the nephew of my second great grandmother Susan A. Slaton. May Reneau was the granddaughter of my fourth great grandparents William Michael (Michael) Reneau and Priscilla Denton. As such, May Reneau was the first cousin of my second great grandmother Martha P. Reneau. May Reneau died in 1909 shortly after her son Arthur J. Slaton was born. Arthur was raised by May's sister Nancy Careen (Carrie) Reneau who married John W. Hamm. |
