Cassie Bell Portwood age 15 married Roy Earl (R.E.) Scarbrough Sr. after 1951. R.E. was the son of Tolbert Ross (Ross) Scarbrough and Cordelia Rene (Cordie) Cole. Aunt Cordie was the daughter of my second great grandparents William Cole and Vesta Clay (Vestie) England. As such, Aunt Cordie was the sister of my great grandmother Sallie Jane Cole, and R.E. was the first cousin of my grandfather Ernest Lester (Lester) Peters Sr. Cassie was the daughter of Thomas William (William) Portwood age 53 and Stella Loretta (Rettie) Hyatt age 51. Cassie was R.E.'s second wife, and I do not believe there was any issue. R.E. had five children with his first wife Julia Ann (Julie) Long. |
