Rev. Robert H. Lea was the father of Catherine Lea who married John Wesley Peters. See house numbers 336, 337, and 338 for additional discussion. |

Dr. Jesse L. Lea was the son of Rev. Robert H. Lea. Jesse's wife was Harriet Tandy. Despite the ditto marks on the census page, Mary J. Lea was almost certainly born in Missouri. The couple was married on 26 Feb 1846 in Johnson County, Missouri. The significance of this census entry is that I believe that Jesse L. Lea was the brother of Kitty age 28 living two houses away in dwelling number 338 as the wife of John Wesley Peters. Therefore, Kitty was the daughter of Rev. Robert H. Lea. See dwelling number 338 for further discussion. Jesse L. Lea is known to have arrived in Johnson County, Missouri in 1844. The dates and birth places of the children of John Wesley Peters and Kitty in dwelling number 338 suggest that their Peters family also arrived in Missouri in 1844. The families probably traveled together. |

Welcome Raymond McCart was the son of Robert McCart and Hannah Peters of Morgan County, Tennessee. My interest in this census entry is that it helps to tie John Wesley Peters living next door in dwelling number 338 and Dr. Jesse L. Lea living next door in dwelling number 336 to the Anderson County area of East Tennessee. There were a lot of Peters-McCart marriages, and many Anderson County families drifted over the county line into Roane and/or Morgan Counties. For example, Welcome Raymond McCart's sister Rachel McCart married James Peters in Roane County, and James and Rachel subsequently lived most of their lives in Morgan County. Despite Hannah Peters' surname, I have not been able to tie her to either Tobias Peters Sr. of Anderson County nor to Henry Peters Sr. of Anderson County, Tennessee. Hannah was born 26 Aug 1873 in Virginia, Tobias Sr. was born 1776/1779 in Virginia, and Henry Sr. was born about 1869 in Pennsylvania. It's possible that the three of them were siblings, although there is no direct evidence that this was so. |

John Wesley Peters and Catherine R. Lea were married 26 Jan 1841 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Catherine was the daughter of Rev. Robert H. Lea. Note that Dr. Jesse L. Lea, son of Rev. Robert H. Lea, was living two houses away in dwelling number 336. The ages and birth places of the children suggest that the family arrived in Missouri about 1844. This is the same date that Dr. Jesse L. Lea arrived in Missouri. The families probably traveled together. John Wesley Peters was the son of my fourth great grandparents Thomas Peters and Sarah (Sallie) England. Namely, Sarah Peters age 9 was probably named for her grandmother Sarah (Sallie) England, Robert W. Peters age 7 was probably named for his grandfather Rev. Robert H. Lea, and Thomas S. Peters age 5 was probably named for his grandfather Thomas Peters. The same pattern would suggest that Mary L. A. Peters age 1 was named for her maternal grandmother. However, the 1850 census entry for Rev. Robert H. Lea shows his wife's name as Jane. Perhaps Jane's name was Mary Jane, perhaps Jane was Rev. Robert H. Lea's second wife, perhaps there was another child named Jane Peters between Thomas and Mary who died as an infant (note the gap in ages between Thomas and Mary), or perhaps the family didn't continue the naming pattern for their fourth child. |

Edward Nichols was the son of Flayl Nichols and Nancy Ann Hatcher. As such, he was the nephew of my fifth great grandfather John James Nichols Jr. Edward Nichols married Hetty Houston 31 Feb 1831 in Blount County, Tennessee. Edward was enumerated in the 1830 census in Sevier County, Tennessee (adjacent to Blount County). I cannot find the family in the 1840 census, and I do not know when they moved to Missouri. Edward and Hetty appear not to have had any children. I do not know who John Phelps was. |

James Morris (Morris) Cobb and Rebecca Godfrey were the parents of James Madison Cobb who married Mary (Polly) Peters, daughter of Tobias Peters Sr. and Elizabeth Rachel Scarborough. |
