Sylfinia Sophia Pickett age 1 later married John Bales Bryan.  John Bales Bryan was the son of Thomas Wilson Bryan and Elizabeth Jane (Jane) White, and the grandson of Ahaz Bryan Sr. and Mary J. (Polly) Webb.  Ahaz Bryan Sr. was the nephew of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan and the first cousin of my fourth great grandfather Thomas C. Bryan Sr.

Sylfinia Sophia Pickett was the daughter of Hiram Pickett and Eliza S.

Merlvina Joseph 19 m w farmer TN

The husband and wife in this census entry were Allen S. Bryan Jr. and Elizabeth Underwood.  Allen S. Bryan Jr. was the son of Allen S. Bryan Sr. and Elizabeth Hubbard.  Elizabeth Underwood was the daughter of John Underwood and Elizabeth Manifold.  (There were entirely too many Elizabeth's in this family.)  Both Allen S. Bryan Jr. and Elizabeth Underwood were born in Sevier County, Tennessee.

Note that Allen S. Bryan Jr. had a daughter named Elizabeth.  Also, you cannot see it in this census entry but Allen S. Bryan Sr. was married twice, first to the aforementioned Elizabeth Hubbard and second to Elizabeth McSpadden.  Allen S. Bryan Sr. had a daughter named Elizabeth Bryan with each wife.  So Allen S. Bryan Jr. had two sisters named Elizabeth, one a full sister and one a half sister.  As I said, there were entirely too many Elizabeth's in this family.

Allen S. Bryan Sr. was the brother of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan.  Elizabeth Underwood was the daughter of my fifth great grandfather John Underwood.  Elizabeth's mother was John's second wife Elizabeth Manifold, and my line is John's first wife Mary Kirby.

Moore George 61 m w farmer NC
       Nilena 48 f w SC
       Winniford 7 f w MO
       James K. 4 m w MO

George Washington Moore was my fourth great grandfather.  I am descended from George's first wife Winiford (Winnie) PeakGeorge's second wife was Nelena Philan Shelton.  Nelena's daughter Winniford was apparently named for Winnie Peak.

George and Winnie were living in Anderson County, Tennessee in 1814 when my third great grandfather Joseph Elvin Moore was born.  I do not know exactly when George and Winnie arrived in Tennessee, nor when they moved on to Missouri.  They apparently arrived in Tennessee before they were married, because they are believed to have been married in Anderson County about 1813.

Dist. 56, Mercer County, Missouri, 7 Sep 1850
p.392b, dwelling number 253, family number 4
Forly David 53 m w farmer VA
        Mary 51 f w PA
        Harriet 16 f w OH
        Mary 11 f w OH
Pruett Tillery 27 m w farmer $700 IN
        Ann 19 f w OH

Mary Ann Fairley age 11 married Daniel Boone Bryan in 1858 in Mercer County.  Daniel was the son of Ahaz Bryan Sr. and Mary (Polly) Webb.  Ahaz Bryan Sr. was the nephew of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan and the first cousin of my fourth great grandfather Thomas C. Bryan Sr.

Mary Jane Fairley was the daughter of David Fairley and Mary Bryan.

Mary Bryan age 51 may have been the daughter of Cornelius Bryan.  This particular Cornelius may or may not have been one of mine, despite the fact that the given name of Cornelius was common in my line.  He was born in 1760 in Charles County, Maryland.  There is no known connection between Bryans in Charles County and my Bryans in Augusta County and Rockingham County, Virginia.  Some sources list Mary's surname as Hyde.  The two interpretations are not necessarily mutually exclusive.  She could have been Mary Hyde who married first a Bryan and married second David Fairley, or she could have been Mary Bryan who married first a Hyde and married second David Fairley.  In the former case, Mary obviously would not have been the daughter of Cornelius Bryan.

Melissa Ann (Ann) Fairley age 19 was Mary Jane's sister.  Ann married Tillery Pruitt about 1849.

District 56, Mercer County, Missouri, 17 Sep 1850
p.396b, dwelling number 300, family number 4
Henry Pleasant 24 m w farmer TN
       Mary 22 f w TN
       Simon 3 m w TN
       Elizabeth 1 f w TN

Pleasant Henry was the son of Hugh Henry Sr. and Mary Upton of Sevier County, Tennessee.  Mary Bryan age 22 was the daughter of Allen S. Bryan Jr. and Elizabeth Underwood of Sevier County, Tennessee.  Given the birth places of the children, the family evidently arrived in Missouri shortly before the 1850 census.

Allen S. Bryan Jr. was the son of Allen S. Bryan Sr.  As such, Allen Jr. was the nephew of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan.

Elizabeth Underwood was the daughter of my fifth great grandfather John Underwood and his second wife Elizabeth Manifold.  As such, Elizabeth Underwood was the half sister of my fourth great grandmother Nancy Underwood whose mother was John's first wife Mary Kirby.
