1850 Census, Ray County, Missouri

Dist. 75, Ray County, Missouri, 22 Oct 1850
p.349a, dwelling number 910, family number 910
Bryan Benjamin 30 m w laborer TN cannot R/W
          Sarah 26 f w TN cannot R/W
          Eliza 5 f w TN
          Mary 1 f w TN
Campbell Rebecca 84 f w NC cannot R/W

Benjamin Allen Bryan age 30 was the son of Ahaz Bryan Sr. and Mary J. (Polly) Webb.  Ahaz Bryan Sr. was the nephew of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan and the first cousin of my fourth great grandfather Thomas C. Bryan Sr.

Sarah Ann Keener age 26 was the daughter of William P. Keener and Elizabeth White.

Benjamin and Sarah were married on 25 Jun 1845 in Sevier County, Tennessee.  They appear not to have moved to Missouri until after Mary was born about 1848 or 1849.

I do not know who Rebecca Campbell was, nor how she might have been related to Benjamin and Sarah.

Messamore Jacob 42 m w farmer $1100 TN
           Lettice 41 f w TN
           John 16 m w farmer TN
           William 13 m w MO
           Matilda 10 f w MO

           Robert 4 m w MO
           Louisa 1 f w MO

Jacob Messamore was probably related to my fourth great grandfather William/Wilhelm Messamore.  I have entertained the notion that Jacob was the son of William.  But other researchers have Jacob listed as the son of Henry Missimer and Susan Bible.  That would suggest that my William Messamore was the brother or cousin of Henry Missimer, but nothing is proven in this regard.

Lettice Tunnell was the daughter of William Tunnell and Rebecca Roark.  The Tunnells were movers and shakers in Anderson County, Tennessee.  Jacob Messamore and Lettice Tunnell were married in 1831 in Roane County, Tennessee.

Thomas's wife was Elizabeth Jane (Jane) White.

Ahaz Bryan age 56 was the son of Thomas Bryan Jr. and Susannah.  As such, Ahaz was the nephew of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan.  Ahaz's wife was Mary J. (Polly) Webb.

The birth places in this census entry are transcribed correctly, but they were enumerated incorrectly.  Ahaz was born in Rockingham County, Virginia.  Polly Webb was born in Maryland, and hence was enumerated correctly.  All the children were born in Tennessee.
