Sarah C. Bryan age 43 was the daughter of my fourth great grandparents Thomas C. Bryan Sr. and Nancy Cate. As such, Sarah was the sister of my third great grandfather Peter H. Bryan. Luke Lee (Lee) Henry was the son of Major Hugh Henry and Mary Upton. Sarah and Lee were married about 1845, probably in Sevier County, Tennessee. However, the Sevier County courhouse burned in 1856, so records from the time Sarah and Lee were married are not extant. I believe I have transcribed the entry for Elizabeth correctly, but I believe she was enumerated incorrectly. She was female, not male. Also, she was about 11 years old in 1870, not 22. There was a brother Isaac C. Henry who would have been about 22 years old in 1870. I believe that the information for Isaac and Elizabeth was combined and confused somehow or other. If we were simply to replace the name Elizabeth with the name Isaac, then the entry for Isaac would be correct. Then, we would have to add an entry for Elizabeth age 11 to make things right. So the enumerator apparently replaced Isaac's name with Elizabeth, and then omitted Elizabeth altogether. |
