Syntha Cross was the
daughter of Brittain Cross and Mary
Parks of Anderson County, Tennessee.
There are records with Syntha's given name spelled
various ways, including Syntha, Sintha, Sinthy, and Cyntha.
Many researchers list Brittain Cross
as the son of my fourth great grandfather
William Cross.
But there are strong reasons to suspect that
William
and Brittain
were not father and son. Rather, it seems more likely that they
were uncle and nephew, or even more likely it seems that they might
have been first cousins once removed.
Syntha was born in Anderson County, Tennessee.
She married James Monroe Tunnell 2 Jul 1840 in Anderson County,
Tennessee, and they moved to Missouri shortly after they were married.
James Monroe Tunnell
died 3 Jul 1850 in Hartsville, Wright County,
Missouri. Syntha married John M. Gorman
about 1852, and John died on 6 Apr 1854. So she was twice
widowed at the time she came into possession of this land.
