Frank and Mae Slaton were children of William Moses (Will) Slaton and Lydia Belle (Belle) Hanely. Will Slaton was the son of Francis Marion (Frank) Slaton and Mary Anne Moore. As such, Will Slaton was the nephew of my second great grandmother Susan A. Slaton. The Slaton family was from Jefferson County, Tennessee. Will and his brother John "went west" to Kansas and then later to California. Will later moved from California back east to Ohio. |

William Moses (Will) Slaton was the son of Francis Marion (Frank) Slaton and Mary Anne Moore. As such, Will was the nephew of my second great grandmother Susan A. Slaton. Will Slaton was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He and his brother John Thomas Slaton "went west". Will married Sarah May (May) Reneau of Jefferson County, but they were married in Harper County, Kansas. They had one child, James Arthur (Arthur) Slaton who was raised by May's sister Nancy Careen (Carrie) Reneau after May died. Arthur Slaton remained in Kansas with Carrie Reneau and her husband John W. Hamm when Will Slaton moved to California. Will Slaton married second Lydia Belle (Belle) Hanely. Belle was the mother of the remaining children. The first three children were born in Kansas, and then Will joined his brother John in Imperial County, California. May was born in California, and then Will moved back east to Richland County, Ohio. Belle's parents were originally from Ohio, and it seems possible that they were moving back to Belle's ancestral home. After moving back to Ohio, Will Slaton visited his family in Jefferson County, Tennessee on a regular basis. But it was usually just Will who visited, not the rest of his family. |
