Aaron M. Shurbutt appeared on the 1870 census in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He married second Mary Elizabeth Bell who was the widow of Joseph F. Slaton. As such, the children of Aaron M. Shurbett and Mary Elizabeth Bell were half brothers and sisters of Leah Slaton who was the daughter of the aforementioned Mary Elizabeth Bell and Joseph F. Slaton Aaron's first wife was Anna Lee, daughter of John Watts Lee and Elizabeth Lands. Anna Lee died in 1863, and Aaron M. Shurbutt had remarried to Mary Elizabeth Bell before the 1870 census. No record of their marriage has been found, and it is not known if they were married in Jefferson County, Tennessee; Spartanburg County, South Carolina; or somewhere else. Joseph F. Slaton was the son of my fourth great grandparents William Slaydon and Susannah Flippin. As such, Joseph was the brother of my third great grandfather Thomas Fielden Slaton. |
