A List of Taxable property and polls in Capt Linvill's Compy taken by R. Pollock Esquire 1802. May, David 1 white poll May, Reynolds 1 white poll |
I have no idea who David May and Reynolds May were. I copied their entries because Margarethe Elizabeth (Peggy) May was my fourth great grandmother. She was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania. She was married in 1799 in Rockingham County, Virginia. She was in Knox County, Tennessee at the time of the 1830 census, and she moved to Anderson County between the 1850 and 1860 censuses. I have no particular expectation that she was related to David May or Reynolds May. |

My fourth great grandfather was John Bray. I believe that this John Bray was the same John Bray who was my fourth great grandfather. I have no idea who Alexander Cole was. I copied his entry because my second great grandfather in Anderson County was William Cole. William Cole is a brick wall. |

Henry Peters Sr. was my fifth great grandfather. Henry Peters Sr. was likely related to Tobias Peters Sr. For example, they might have been brothers. But their exact relationship to each other, if any, is unknown. Henry and Tobias moved from Greenbrier County, Virginia to what is now Anderson County, Tennessee in 1797. They moved with the Scarbroughs, and Tobias was married to Elizabeth Rachel Scarborough shortly before the move. |

William Underwood was the brother of John Underwood, Thomas Underwood, and George Underwood, each of whom settled in Sevier County, Tennessee. John and Thomas were both my fifth great grandfathers. |

John England 1765-1816 of Montgomery County, Virginia was my fifth great grandfather. The last record of him in Virginia was on 9 Sep 1799 when he sold land in Montgomery County. The first record of him in Anderson County, Tennessee was his signature on a 1799 petition requesting the partitioning of Knox County. So he must have moved to Tennessee in 1799. John's father Joseph England died in Virginia in 1791. I believe that the Joseph England in this tax list was John's brother Joseph England Jr. I am not sure about the Jacob England in this tax list. The only other brother that I am aware of was James England. John England married Vesta Zipporah (Zipporah) Choate about 1783 in Montgomery County, Virginia. I'm assuming that Zipporah was related to the two Austin Choats and to Christopher Choat. However, the exact relationship is not known. |

James Bray was possibly the brother of my fourth great grandfather John Bray, but this is not proven. |
