Susan S. Cross age 30 was the daughter of David L. Cross and Mary (Polly) Himes of Sullivan County, Tennessee. Susannah Himes age 57 was the daughter of George Himes. As such, Susannah Himes was the sister of Mary (Polly) Himes, so Susan S. Cross was living with her Aunt Susannah. David L. Cross was the son of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy. So Susan S. Cross was the niece of my third great grandfather Alfred Carter Cross and the first cousin of my second great grandmother Hulda Asberine Cross. Susan S. Cross was married on 25 Sep 1850 to Albert Gallatin Williams. On 29 Nov 1850 when the census was actually taken, she should already have been married. But as of the official census date of 1 Jun 1850, she was not yet married. |

Cornelius Joseph O'Brien age 57 was the son of Brien O'Brien Jr. and Mary Ann Thomas and the grandson of Brien O'Brien Sr. and Rebecca Potts. My seventh great grandfather Cornelius O'Bryan is suspected of having been the son of Brien O'Brien Sr. and therefore having been the brother of Brien O'Brien Jr. To the extent that this suspicion might have been true, Cornelius Joseph O'Brien would have been the first cousin of my sixth great grandfather Thomas Bryan Sr. Cornelius Joseph O'Brien married Mary McGarvey age 58 in 1814 in Pennsylvania. I'm not aware of any extant record of their marriage that gives the exact date and place. The 1850 census included a question about whether the couple was married within the year or not, and the Carter County enumerator recorded the marriage year and place. So this census entry is the best record we have of their marriage. |

William Peters age 49 was the son of James Peters and Amelia Ward. This is the line of Christian (Christopher) Peters of Pennsylvania and Virginia. I do not know for sure if they were related to my Peters of Anderson County, Tennessee. However, DNA evidence suggests that the Peters family of Carter County and the Peters family of Anderson County had common ancestors. William married Nancy Brooks age 47 on 3 Mar 1829 in Carter County. Nancy was the daughter of Reuben Brooks and Mary Smithpeter. Reuben was living with the William Peters family in 1850, but Mary was not. Mary was living alone, a few houses away in dwelling number 56. |
