Howard Raymond Peters age 19 was the son of my grandparents Ernest Lester Peters Sr. and Lola Ethel Williamson. As such, Uncle Howard was my mother's brother.

Howard married Mary Aileen Murphy age 21 on 22 Sep 1950 in Knox County, Tennessee. I don't know for sure, but it seems likely that Howard and Mary were already engaged at the time of the 1950 census. They both attended Gibbs High School in Knox County and they dated while they were in high school. Mary's father James Carl (Carl) Murphy age 43 had become the head of an Esso distributorship in Rogersville in Hawkins County not too long before the 1950 census. Carl's son James Patrick (Jimmy) Murphy as well as Carl's future son-in-law Howard Peters were both working for Carl's company as truck drivers to deliver gasoline to service stations. Howard was living as a boarder in the Murphy household at the time of the census.

Carl Murphy married Rose Dell Hampton age 44 on 29 April 1928 in Hamblen County. As a widow and widower, Mary's mother Rose Hampton Murphy and Howard's father Lester Peters were married on 26 Mar 1967 in Knox County.
