Deeds in Hawkins County, Tennessee The following Bryan/Bryant deeds were originally posted to the Dumplin-L listserv by Billie McNamara. I do not believe that any of these Bryans connect with my Peter Bryan & Betty Hubbard line. Rather, I believe they must connect with the Morgan Bryan & Martha Strode line. Also, it is not clear if they arrived in Hawkins County from North Carolina or from Virginia. 1798 -- John Bryant sold 640 acres on which he lived (book 2, page 413) 1800 -- Joseph Bryant sold 240 acres (book 1, page 339) 1800 -- John Bryant sold 200 acres bounded by John Bryant and Morgan Bryant (book 3, page 3) 1808 -- Joseph Bryant of Grainger County bought 160 acres from William Cocke (book 6, page 48) 1810 -- John Bryants sold 100 acres (book 6, page 319) 18__ (recorded 1819) -- Joseph Bryant of Grainger County sold 78.75 acres to Thomas Bryant (book 9, page 137): On both sides of the main road that leads from Rogersville to Knoxville whereon the said Thomas BRYANT now lives part of the tract of land known by the name of the Dry fields adjoining the land of the said Joseph BRYANT, James FAR, and the County line marker -- also runs to John Bryant's line. 18__ (recorded 1824) -- John Bryant of White County sold 100 acres (book 11, page 131) 1827 -- Joseph Bryan Sr of Grainger County sold to Joseph Bryan Jr (book 11, page 441): On the north side of Holston River and lying on both sides of the main road that leads from Abingdon to Knoxville being the place whereon the said Joseph BRYANT Juniour [sic] now lives and bounded as follows: Bounds include Thomas Bryant's line 1832 -- Thomas Bryant sold to Joseph Bryant Jr (both of Hawkins County) 78.75 acres (book 14, page 315): On both sides of the main road leading from Rogersville to Knoxville whereon the said Thomas BRYANT now lives part of the tract of lands known by the Dry fields adjoining the land of Joseph BRYANT Senr 1842 -- Reuben Bryan of Hawkins County sold 160 acres (book 18, page 151) 1842 -- Samuel Bryant bought 108 acres (book 18, page 549): On the north side of Holston River on a branch of Poor Valley Creek known by the Whetstone Branch including the house and all the improvements whereon the said BRIANT [sic] now lives 18__ (recorded 1851) -- Daniel Briant acquired 100 acres through a judgment levy 1855 -- Joseph Bryan is still mentioned in the deed records, including one that mentions a point of a beginning corner in a deed from Joseph BRYAN Senr to Joseph BRYAN Jr 1857 -- Alexander J. Bryant appears in the deeds
