John Anderson Hicks age 14 later married Mary Viala (Mollie) Bryan. Mollie was the daughter of my third great grandparents Peter Hubbard Bryan and Mary Ann (Polly Ann) Cate. As such, Mollie was the sister of my second great grandfather William Allen (Will) Bryan. John Anderson Hicks was the son of Abraham Russell Hicks Jr. and Susanna A. Bullington age 48. Abraham died in 1872. |

Gideon Cate was the son of John Cate Jr. and Mary Ann Koontz. In 1880, Mary Dennis age 54 was his widow. Craton (Cratie) Cate was in fact the son of James Elder and Mary Dennis, but Cratie seems to have taken the surname of his stepfather Gideon Cate. The census misidentified him as being female. Daniel P. Cate was the son of Gideon Cate and Gideon's first wife Elizabeth Stephenson. John Cate Jr. was the son of my fifth great grandparents John Cate Sr. and Mary. As such, John Jr. was the brother of my fourth great grandfather Joshua Cate. |
