4 Feb 1875
Elijah Cross, county of Morgan, state of Tennessee,
to Lindsay Cooper.
$600, Dist. 2, headwaters of Little Emory River, 190 acres

Elijah Cross was the son of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy.  This deed is the last record I have found that indicates that Elijah was still living.  Elijah was 79 years old (nearly 80) at the time of this deed.

Elijah Cross was the son of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy.  This deed is the first record I have found that indicates that Elijah was deceased.

Avaline W. (Av) Cross was the daughter of Jacob Benton Cross and Louisa Ann Laymance, and the granddaughter of Elijah Cross.  She married Thomas Levege Love in 1878.

Sarah Florence Cross was the daughter of Jacob Benton Cross and Louisa Ann Laymance, and the granddaughter of Elijah Cross.  She married in 1885, so her surname was still Cross at the time of this deed.

Mary Jane Cross was the daughter of John T. Cross and Genetta Underwood, and the granddaughter of Elijah Cross.  She married in 1885, so her surname was still Cross at the time of this deed.

Peter Leonard Mathis was the second husband of Louisa Ann Laymance and thereby was the stepfather of Avaline W. (Av) Cross and Sarah Florence Cross.  He was also the father of an out-of-wedlock child with Sarah Florence Cross.

I have not been able to find any connection between William Lewallen and the Cross family except that he sold land to Elijah Cross.

The County Clerk was Martin F. Redman.  The Registrar is a puzzle.  The surname was difficult to transcribe.  The first three letter were definitely "Sca", but the rest is hard to read.  I wonder if it might have been John Lupton Scarbrough Jr., except that he lived in Roane County.  Well, he lived in Oliver Springs, which is really in Roane County, Morgan County, and Anderson County.

13 Oct 1884-- Jacob B. Cross husband and Penny Cross wife....

(I need to get more details on this one.) Jacob B. Cross was the son of John T. Cross and Genette Underwood, the grandson of Elijah Cross and Mary (Polly) Winters, and the great grandson of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy.  I have has name as Jacob H. Cross, based on the spelling from the 1870 census.

4 Oct 1884 deed... Mary J. Goss and J. H. Cross of Morgan Co.
and G. W. Honeycutt...sold to G. W. Honeycutt two tracts of
