Most of these Englands in Overton County were descended from my third great grandparents John England and Jane (Jennie) Peters. John and Jane were from Anderson County, Tennessee.
After the Civil War, they "moved to the mountains" as it was described in John's Civil War pension application. John appeared in the 1870 census in Fentress County, and in the 1880 and 1900 censuses in Morgan County. Jane appeared with John in the 1880 census in Morgan County. She died in 1881 and was buried in Fentress County. John married second to Anna Melissa Davis. He and Anna were buried in Morgan County.
Many of John England's descendants subsequently ended up in Fentress County and Overton County. The geographic sequence is that Morgan County is west of and adjacent to Anderson County (northwest, actually), Fentress County is west of and adjacent to Morgan County, and Overton County is west of and adjacent to Fentress County.
The information below is taken from Overton County Roll Call, 2nd Edition, by Gary Denton Norris. The book appears to have supplemented tombstone inscriptions with additional research. So the book is an incredibly rich resource. However, when family members such as husbands, wives, sons, and daughters are listed as comments, I cannot tell if this information came from the tombstone inscriptions or if the information was the fruit of the additional research.
The book includes the Campground Cemetery in Fentress County in addition to Overton County cemeteries. Indeed, Jane Peters herself was buried at the Campground Cemetery.
