The list is in alphabetical order, and the last name is Jacob McClain. Therefore, the list is clearly incomplete. Also, 1814 Sevier County tax lists are not exant for any other militia company. Indeed, I do not know why this particular fragment is extant. It must not have been in the courthouse at the time of the 1856 fire.
Peter Bryan was my fifth great grandfather. His son Thomas Bryan was my fourth great grandfather.
Allen S. Bryan Sr. was Peter's brother. Allen S. Bryan Jr. was born in 1804, so none of the references to Allen Bryan were to him. Peter had a son named Allen Ludwell Bryan who was born in 1791, who therefore was old enough in 1814 to be in the tax list. Line 2 was Allen S. Bryan Sr. It seems likely that line 3 was also a reference to Allen S. Bryan Sr., although I do not know why there was an entry with no data. It seems likely that line 10 was a reference to Allen Ludwell Bryan.
