On July 4, 1843 a group of Sevier County men met to sign a letter to be published in the KNOXVILLE REGISTER reaffirming their support of Lewis Reneau, a local lawyer and leader of the Whig Party, who represented Blount, Cocke, Jefferson, and Sevier Counties in the Senate of the 23rd and 24th General Assemblies (1839 - 1843).
The names with an asterisk * are not listed as heads of families in the 1840 census and will be a help in tracing family history.
