Tennessee had a birth and death certificate law for a short time from 1908 through 1912. These certificates did not include as much information as did later birth and death certificates. There were no birth or death certificates in 1913. A new law was then passed, and since 1914 both birth and death certificates in Tennessee have been more or less in their modern form.
