Sevier County Land Grants

from Sevier County, Tennesse, State of Tennessee Land Grants, 1806-1900, compied by George & Juanita Fox

Brian, Peter Grant #417 10 Jul 1807
238 acres 3 rods on the waters of
the French Broad River (Grant No.
1484 found in Bk. 2 p.565)
S.c.c. none.

Peter Bryan was my fifth great grandfather -- my direct paternal line.  He is often listed in Bryan family histories as "Peter the Signer".  He arrived in what is now Sevier County, Tennessee in about 1790.  Many Bryans in the middle part of East Tennessee -- Sevier, Jefferson, and Knox Counties in particular -- are descended from him.  Peter was the son of Thomas Bryan Sr. and Elizabeth.

There seems little doubt that Grant #417 and Grant #1484 were for the same land (see below).

Briant, Allen Grant #2654, 2 acres, 2 Oct 1812, Book 3, p. 535
Briant, Allen Grant #2653, 2 1/2 acres, 9 Oct 1812, Book 3, p. 535

Allen S. Bryan Sr. was the son of my sixth great grandparents Thomas Bryan Sr. and Elizabeth.  As such, Allen was the brother of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan.

no George T. Keener

I was expecting to find a land grant for George T. Keener, father of Amanda Keener who married William Enyard Bryan.  William was the son of my fourth great grandparents Thomas C. Bryan Sr. and Nancy Cate.  As such, William was the brother of my third great grandfather Peter H. Bryan.
