1820 Census, Warren County, Tennessee

p.268, line 19, Warren County, Tennessee, 1820
James Hubbard 210101-22010 2 persons engaged in agriculture

  00-09 1811-1820 2 00-09 2
  10-15 1805-1810 1 10-15 2
  16-17 1803-1804 0
  18-25 1795-1802 1 16-25 0
  26-44 1776-1794 0 1
  45-?? ????-1775 1 0 James Hubbard

I believe that this was Col. James Hubbard who was a colleague of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan in Sevier County, Tennessee.  In addition, Col. Hubbard was believed to have been related to Peter Bryan's wife Betty Hubbard.  Indeed, Col. Hubbard was the father of Elizabeth Hubbard who married Peter's younger brother Allen S. Bryan Sr.  But the exact relationship between James Hubbard and Betty Hubbard is not known.

This census entry was hard to transcribe.  If this was Col. Hubbard, then there should have been a female age 45 or greater, because Col. Hubbard's second wife Elizabeth Anderson was born in 1750 and died in 1821.  So I'm not sure if I have the correct census entry, or even if I do whether or not I have the columns lined up quite right.  The 1820 census had six age categories for males but only five age categories for females.

p.268, line 20, Warren County, Tennessee, 1820
Robert Hubbard 0001-301 1 person engaged in agriculture

  00-09 1811-1820 0 00-09 3
  10-15 1805-1810 0 10-15 0
  16-17 1803-1804 0
  18-25 1795-1802 1 16-25 1 Robert Hubbard

I believe that Robert was the son of Col. James Hubbard who was a colleague of my fifth great grandfather Peter Bryan in Sevier County, Tennessee.  Col. Hubbard died in 1824, and is said to have died while visiting his son in Warren County, Tennessee.  Col. Hubbard did have a son named Robert, so perhaps this is the son he was visiting at the time of his death.

p.268, line 21, Warren County, Tennessee, 1820
Robert Hubbard Sr. 111101-0011 2 persons engaged in agriculture

  00-09 1811-1820 1 00-09 0
  10-15 1805-1810 1 10-15 0
  16-17 1803-1804 1
  18-25 1795-1802 1 16-25 1
  26-44 1776-1794 0 1
  45-?? ????-1775 1 0 Robert Hubbard Sr.

This becomes very confusing because the younger Robert Hubbard could have been the son of Col. James Hubbard or of Robert Hubbard Sr. Just because of the "Sr." designation, we cannot automatically assume that the two Roberts were father and son.  Also, just as Col. James Hubbard's household seems to missing a female age 45 or older, so too does the household of Robert Hubbard Sr.  That renews my concern of whether or not I have transcribed these census entries correctly.
