William C. Cross age 22 was the son of John E. Cross and Nancy A. Letsinger.  At the time of the 1900 census, William was a fugitive from justice in Anderson County, Tennessee.  He had killed a man in 1896.  He was returned to Anderson County for trial in 1912.  At the trial, he claimed self defense.  He was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison.  Given the relatively short prison sentence for so serious a crime as murder, the jury must have at least partly believed his story.

John E. Cross was the son of Jesse C. Cross and Amelia (Milly) England.  As such, John was the nephew of my third great grandfather Alfred Carter Cross.  Also, John E. Cross was the nephew of my fourth great grandfather Titus England and the nephew of my fourth great grandmother Sarah (Sallie) EnglandTitus and Sallie were brother and sister.

Nancy A. Letsinger was the daughter of Daniel (Dan) Letsinger and Mary W. Shinpaugh.  Dan was the great grandfather of Samuel Mabry (Sam) Letsinger.  Uncle Sam married Elza Cordelia (Elzie) Peters, who was the sister of my grandfather Ernest Lester (Lester) Peters Sr.
