Frances Luella (Fannie) Gaut age 43 was the daughter of John J. Gaut and Margaret Angeline (Angeline) Bryan. Angeline Bryan was the daughter of my fourth great grandparents Thomas C. Bryan Sr. and Nancy Cate. As such, Angeline was the sister of my third great grandfather Peter H. Bryan. Fannie Gaut's husband was Richard Madison Ford age 55, son of Andrew J. Ford and Sarah H. (Sally) Rhoades. The transcription is correct in that Fannie was enumerated as a male. However, she clearly was female. The census enumerator must have gotten carried away writing "m" for the family, and wrote one too many. The grandson "Russell K." was in fact Knox Russell, with Russell having been his surname. |

Margaret Angeline (Angeline) Bryan age 78 was the daughter of my fourth great grandparents Thomas C. Bryan Sr. and Nancy Cate. As such, Angeline was the sister of my third great grandfather Peter H. Bryan. Angeline married John J. Gaut age 78 on 15 Mar 1855. John was the son of Joseph Gaut and Delilah Jones. It's interesting to note the way the birth places for Angeline's parents were listed. Both of them were really born in Tennessee. Our branch of the Bryan family almost certainly had it's roots in Ireland. It's not clear how the notion that the family had Irish roots ended up with Angeline's parents listed as having been born in Ireland instead of Tennessee, but that seems to be what happened. |
