Arlene A. Brown, the eldest of three daughters, was born to Samuel Edwin and Effie Lea Tinnel Curry in Ione, Wash., Dec. 29, 1925, and she entered into rest in Tukwila on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, with her loving family at her side. Arlene was raised in a number of places in eastern Washington, notably in Whitman County and Asotin County. She graduated from Asotin High School in 1943. She married her high school sweetheart, Donald R. Brown Oct. 24, 1945. They remained husband and wife until her passing, celebrating 61 years of marriage. A devoted homemaker, Arlene was involved in raising their children, Sheila, Darrell, and Steve. Arlene was also busy with home-related activities such as, craft work, sewing, baking, and canning. Arlene's passion has always been her family. She was a devoted wife and mother, taking care of her husband Don and her family. Arlene was involved with her children, working as a den mother in the Cub Scouts, working with her daughter in Bluebirds and Camp Fire Girls. Her family fondly remembers her as a giving woman, always there for them. The wife of an educator, Arlene lived in Wenatchee from 1958 to 1981, where her husband Don was principal of Wenatchee High School from 1958 to 1967. Beginning in 1975 Arlene was actively involved in the Seattle Children's Hospital starting with the Wenatchee Guild and later after moving to Mount Vernon, Wash., with the Cora Jennings Guild. Arlene and her husband Don relocated to Mount Vernon in 1984, where she had resided since. Arlene is survived by her loving family, her husband of 61 years, Donald at the family home; loving daughter, Sheila M. (Brown) Barnes and husband Jerry of Loomis, Wash.; sons, Darrell D. Brown and wife Barbara (Musolf) of Bowie, Md.; and Steven R. Brown and wife Kris of Okanogan, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Nadene Hopfer of Nordman, Idaho; numerous nieces and nephews; and the many friends she made in her life who will miss her dearly. A loving grandchild, Carrie E. Brown in 1995, a daughter-in-law, Carrie A. Brown in 1996; and a sister, Nancy Ferguson preceded Arlene in death. Arlene's family wishes to express their thanks to the critical care unit of Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, and Regional Hospital in Tukwila, Wash., for their compassion and kindness at a time when it was needed most. In lieu of floral tributes, Arlene's family requests that memorials in her name be made to the Children's Hospital Foundation, Seattle, Wash. A celebration of Arlene's life is planned and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Affordable Burial and Cremation Services, LLC of Mount Vernon, Wash.
