Underwood, John Amos, age 74, passed away 11 p.m. Sunday after a lingering illness. He was a prominent farmer in the Dumplin community. Survived by wife, Mrs. Lola Bryan Underwood, New Market; two sons, W. R., Knoxville; Hal of Strawberry Plains; five daughters, Mrs. Cecil Owens, Nashville; Mrs. Cleo McKnight, Knoxville; Mrs. Paul Stallings, Strawberry Plains; Mrs. O. L. Creswell, Knoxville; Mrs. Clyde Jones, Dandridge; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Mae Johnson, Kodak, Tenn. Funeral services in the Dumplin Baptist Church of which he was a member, Tuesday, 2:30 p.m., Rev. Ben Knisley and Rev. Glenn Toomey officiating. Interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Sevier County. Body moved from the home to the church one hour before services. Members of Sunday School Class honorary pallbearers. Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City, in charge.
