Death: 24 February 1944, age 35, England.⁵⁶³ He was killed while on active duty in WWII. He was killed by a gas leak in his barracks. Capt. Drinnen was a graduate of the University Medical School in Memphis, Tennessee. He practiced medicine with his father Dr. John Willis Drinnen before the war in Knox and Sevier Counties.

Burial: about 1945, at Asbury Cemetery Knox County, Tennessee. He was re-interred from England to Tennessee after the war, but the exact date is not known.

Bittle, Fern Drinnen - age 87, of East Knox County, passed away Thursday afternoon at Hillcrest North. She was a lifelong member of Riverdale Baptist Church. Before retirement she was a clerk in the Fourth Circuit Court. She was preceded in death by husbands, Dr. Thomas D. Drinnen Sr. and Harry W. Bittle. Survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Gary and Billie Drinnen, Concord, N.C., Dr. Tom and Anita Drinnen of Knoxville, Dr. Dan and Sue Drinnen, Dickson, Tenn. and Jimmy and Sharon Bittle of Morgan Hill, Calif.; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. Funeral service 8 p.m. Sunday, Gentry-Griffey Chapel, Rev. Michael D. Vincent officiating. Friends will meet at 1 p.m. Monday at Asbury Cemetery for interment service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverdale Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Gentry-Griffey Chapel.
