Death: 1987, age 88,.553 Burial: at Lawnview Cemetery Cordell, Washita County, Oklahoma.553 Samuel Houston Arnold Sr. could be a Jr. since his father had the same name. He changed it to Sr. after his son, Samuel Dixon Arnold, legally changed his name to Samuel Houston Arnold Jr. or the II. He had a drug store during the Great Depression. In order to make ends meet, he became very good at poker and made enough to keep the family going. His son, James, still has his poker chips. He also made his own wine and James has the crock he made it in. He made mulberry wine from our own mulberry tree and would crush them with the feet in the crock. Samuel Houston Arnold II (Sr.) was educated in the Cordell schools, attended the University of Oklahoma, 1917-1918, University of Stillwater in 1918-1919, back to Oklahoma University and graduated from the School of Pharmacy in 1921. He returned to Cordell and on July 27, 1923 was married to Willie Belle Richmond, daughter of J. W. Richmond of Cordell. In 1924, Sam Arnold with his mother, Mrs. Alma A. Kerley, purchased the Rexall Drug Store in Cordell. Mrs. Kerley sold her interest to Sam in1945. Alma A. Kerley died January 25, 1968. Two sons were born to Sam and Willie Belle Arnold. Samuel Houston Arnold Jr., was born August 15,1925 in Cordell. James Kerley Arnold was born May 25, 1929 in Cordell. The Arnold Rexall Drug store is still owned and operated by Sam H.
