Reilly Martha (Karpus) - This is to honor the life of Martha (Karpus) Reilly native daughter who passed away May 3rd 2005 in Riverdale New York in a Christian Science Sanatorium. Martha was born in the Noe Valley district of SF October 10th 1941. She graduated from Mission High attended San Francisco State and graduated from New York University New York. Martha lived most of her adult life in New York City but was a frequent visitor to SF where she had both family and friends. Martha was known for her spirit of optimism her love of children and the childlike innocence she felt everyone possessed. Martha worked in publishing in New York City for N.Y.U. and then in Brooklyn as an eighth grade teacher for six years. Her last position was with a Christian Science organization as the coordinator of a rehabilitation program for inmates of New York State. She was also a writer of poetry plays articles and stories for children some of which were published or produced. Many of her writings are a witnessing of the quality of life in San Francisco in the 1940s and 50s and of the buoyancy and complexity of childhood. Martha is succeeded by her sister Kay Walker; her nieces Pamela Walker-Cleary and Connie Walkershaw; her grandnephew Alexander Cleary and her grandnieces Selina Cleary and Carmen Walkershaw. Martha will be missed by her family and many friends who all love and believed in her.
