Robert had 10 children.

Robert lived in Chatata Valley and moved to Cleveland, TN in later years.

Robert L. Bryan and Sarah (Sallie) Barnett Marriage: 29 August 1871, Tennessee. The following is from Elizabeth Cate Manly.

"Cousin Bob" and "Cousin Sallie" were hospitality personified. Besides their own ten children, there were always others there, enjoying the good food and the hearty welcome. They took care of many relatives who were ill. With six sons, this family has kept the Bryan name alive in Bradley and McMinn Counties. Thos. M. Bryan, the lone survivor of the six at the present (as of 1978) was honored in 1976 as being the oldest veteran of World War I in Bradley County. He served oversees.

Death: 2 July 1935, age 48, Hiawassee River, Tennessee. Burial: after 2 July 1935, at New Friendship Cemetery Cleveland, Bradley County, Tennessee. Joe drowned in the Hiawassee River, where he had been a ferryman between Calhoun and Charleston, Tennessee. His two times great grandfather Peter Bryan is said to have died in a similar fashion.
