He appeared in the census in 1850 in Caldwell County, North Carolina. Horton 5 m w NC He appeared in the census in 1860 in Greene County, Tennessee. Horton 15 m w farmer NC Horton died on 18 March 1913 in Greene County, Tennessee.

He was buried about 19 March 1913 in Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Mosheim, Greene County, Tennessee.29

County and State [illegible signature, possibly C.P. Fox, over phrase: Greene County] a citizen of Greeneville
whose Post Office is Greeneville Tenn
well known to me to reputable and entitled to credit, and who; being duly sworn, declares in relation to aforesaid
case as follows:

That he is a Practicing Physician, and that he has been acquainted with said soldier for about [left blank] years, and
that [Here embody all the facts known to the affiant in accordance with the marginal instructions. No erasures or interlineations will be permitted
unless the magistrate certifies in his jurat that they were made before excuting the paper.

suffering from Deafness to such
a degree as not to be able
to hear the ticking of a watch
when placed in contact with
the ear the deafness being
considerably worse in right than
left ear - When examined with
opiculeur the membrana Tympani
has an opaque appearance indicative
of inflamatory Thickening - There
is also some obstruction to the
eustachean Tubes - so as not to
allow perfect inflation of the middle
Ear - This Trouble seemes
to date from an attack of measles
which left a chronic Naso Pharyngeal
Catarrh with catarrh of the ear +
Eustachean Tubes.

Personally came before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for
aforesaid County and State Horton Cox
aged 56 years, late private Company D. 1st
Regiment Tenn Cav, County of Greene, State of
Tennessee, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who
being duly sworn, declares in relation to the aforesaid case as follow:

That his claim for Increase Pension No 486642 having been rejected for
the following reasons: that the rate of pension $12 per month
is fully commensurate with the disability
from pensioned caus disease of chest + nasalpharyngeal
catarrh result of measles and fever
and that the extent of this disability is such that he cannot do
Scarcely any labot whatever on account of the
foregoing disabilities.

The Claimant appeals for a Reconsideration of his said claim on the grounds
that his present reate $12 per month is not
commensurate with the disability from
pensioned cause as Shown by evidence
now on file in the Pension office and by
the report of the Board which shows that
that he is entitled to a higher rate on pensioned
cause He would therefore ask a reconsideration
of his claim that Justice may be done him.

on the 12th Day of August, 1862, as a Private, in Co. K, 1st
Regt Tenn. Cavl. Vols.
in the service of the United States, in the Rebellion war, and was HONORABLY DISCHARGED
at Nashville, Tenn, on the 5th day of June, 1865.
That he also served in Co. D, Same Regt.

That he was not employed in the military of naval service of the United States otherwise than as stated above. That his person
description at enlistment was as follows: Height, 5 feet 5 inches; complexion, fair, color of
eyes, blue; color of hair, light; that his occupation was farmer, that he
was born May 16, 1842, at Caldwell Co. N.C.

That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: Greene Co. Tenn.
That he incurred in service, and in line of duty, Disease of chest


and Naso pharyngeal catarrh result of measles and fever, and he is


now unable to perform manual labor and claims rate of $30.

That he is a pensioner under certificate No. 486.642. That he has - applied for pension under original

That she is the widow of Horton Cox who was
enrolled under the name of Horton Cox

and honorably discharged June 5, 1865 having served ninety days or more during the late war
