He was a retired railroad agent for Southern Railroad (Spring City, TN). Connie Shannon, wife of Sam Shannon, Jr. told this story: Earl Cox taught her to milk a cow. She had never even touched a cow and one time she was at Granny Cox’s house when Earl said it was time to go milk the cow. When he found out she didn’t know how, he took her out back and got her started. (Sallie Cox)
