Thomas Harvey Messamore and Elizabeth A. (Betsy) Webster were married on 30 May 1868 in Clinton, Anderson County, Tennessee.48 They were married by A. Herrell, M.G.

Elizabeth A. (Betsy) Webster46 (daughter of John Webster and Elizabeth G. Anderson) was born about 1836 in [Surry County], North Carolina. She appeared in the census in 1850 in Surry County, North Carolina. Elizabeth A. 13 f w NC attended school She appeared in the census in 1860 in Roane County, Tennessee. Betsy A. 22 f w NC She died on 20 May 1869 in [Anderson County, Tennessee].48 Date of death given as 20 May 1864 on WorldConnect, but I think it must have been 20 May 1869 because she was married in 1868. Her husband remarried in 1870. (RGB)

The 20 May 1869 date is confirmed from the Civil War pension record of Thomas Harvey Messamore. According to the pension record, Elizabeth died in Clinton, Anderson County, Tennessee. Thomas Harvey Messamore and Elizabeth A. (Betsy) Webster had the following children:

123

i.

Sarah Elizabeth Messamore48 was born on 13 Apr 1869 in [Anderson County, Tennessee].48 Sarah's birth date is listed on her father's Civil War pension papers as 13 April, with the year of 1869 being very difficult to read but looking like it's probably 1869. It seems certain that the year must have been 1869 given the dates of her father's marriages and given the dates of death for his wives. Which is to say, Sarah was almost certainly the daughter of Elizabeth A. (Betsy) Webster. Betsy married Thomas Messamore on 30 May 1868, and Betsy died 20 May 1869. (RGB) She died between 13 Apr 1869 and 12 Jul 1870. Sarah's name was listed on her father's Civil War pension papers as Sarah E. Messamore. Her grandmothers were Sarah (Sary) Heath (wife of James Messamore) and Elizabeth G. Anderson (wife of John Webster). So listing Sarah's middle name is a guess based on her middle initial of E and based on her the names of her two grandmothers. (RGB)

Thomas Harvey Messamore and Susan Elizabeth Long were married on 18 Sep 1870 in Clinton, Anderson County, Tennessee.16,48

Susan Elizabeth Long16,48 (daughter of Elisha Long and Elizabeth Landrum) was born about 1845 in Anderson County, Tennessee.49 She appeared in the census in 1850 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Susan E. 5 f w TN She appeared in the census in 1860 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Susan E. 13 f w TN She appeared in the census in 1870 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Susan E. 26 f w at home TN She appeared in the census in 1880 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Elizabeth 35 wife f m w keeping house TN TN TN She died on 18 Jan 1893 in [Anderson County, Tennessee].48 Her date of death is estimated from the date of the marriage of her husband to his next wife. (RGB) I believe her middle name was Elizabeth, and that she was listed on the 1880 census as Elizabeth. (RGB)

A transcription of the Anderson County marriage book lists her name as Susan E. Sage. However, it seems certain that the transcription is in error, and that her name was Susan E. Long. Her husband's Civil War pension file lists her name as S. E. Long. There was a Susan E. Long in Anderson County at the time of Thomas Messamore's marriage, but there was no Susan E. Sage. (RGB)

Thomas Harvey Messamore and Susan Elizabeth Long had the following children:
