Mildred Messamore Smiley, 86, of W. Wolf Valley Road, Clinton, died Friday morning, June 4, 1999, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

Mrs. Smiley was a homemaker.

She had attended Zion Baptist Church in Claxton.

Born Oct. 31, 1912, in Knox County, she was the daughter of Pete Messamore and Exie Peters Messamore. She was the widow of Roger H. Smiley.

Mrs. Smiley is survived by her daughter, Betty Harkleroad and her husband, Roy, of Clinton; her son, George Smiley and his wife, Alma, of Clinton; two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Smiley of Knoxville and Betty Smiley of Norris; her brother, James G. Messamore and his wife, Betty, of Knoxville; and by three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, another daughter, Carolyn J. Smiley, two sons, James Smiley and Hollis Smiley, and a grandson, Dean Smiley, died earlier.

The funeral was held Sunday, June 6, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial followed at Zion Cemetery in Claxton.

She was buried on 6 Jun 1999 in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Anderson County, Tennessee.
