She was born about 1913 when Clarence Messamore and his wife Irene were only 16 and 15 years old, respectively. Clarence and Irene were not married until about 1921. Yet, Dorothy was listed as a daughter in the 1930 census. It seems very likely that Dorothy was adopted by at least one of Clarence and Irene, if not both of them.
