Vern, the only living son of John and Mary Slaton Cox, was a twin to Fern. He has always been more or less a businesslike man instead of a farmer. He never cared to much for the farm and was in the trucking business. Also, for quite a few years he would go into Indiana and Illinois and buy up used farm machinery and bring it into Tennessee and sell it. He married Effie Walker who at the time of their marriage her father was the Sheriff of Jefferson County. They have two children, namely,Mary Louise and David.
