CROSS FAMILY NOTES Continued from last issue
CROSS LAND GRANTS
This is record is divided into three parts. The first part lists land
granted to Micajah Cross (d.1816 or 1817) and his six sons who settled
in Scott and Campbell Counties. The second part lists land granted to
the descendants of Ashael (Acil) who died 1818 in Wilkes Co. North
Carolina, and his wife Temperance Cross (1763-1853) who moved to Scott
County, Tn. after his death. Included for reference in the third part is
some of the land granted to Crosses who migrated from Baltimore county,
Maryland and Virginia to Sullivan County about the time of the
Revolutionary War. Some of them later moved to Anderson County, Tenn.
Some of the land listed was in Anderson County prior to the formation of
Campbell County in 1806, and in Morgan County before Scott County was
formed in 1849.
There is a reference in one record to an entry of 1000 acres of land on
main Buffalo Creek, including a place called Haynes Improvements by
Micajah Cross in Campbell County 13 Oct 1808. Micajah Cross, Sr. (d.1816
or 1817) was on the Anderson County tax list in 1805.

The last will and testament of Micajah Cross who lived in Walnut cove
in what is now Jacksboro, Tenn. mentions his wife Elizabeth Cross and
six children: Absalom, Micajah Jr., Henry, Caswell, Larkin, and
Pleasant. The will was written June 11, 1815. Micajah's children filed
on land for several years.
