| Narrative | ![]() Private (PFC) Tristan J. Murray, born on July 17th, 2007, in Knoxville, Tennessee, enlisted in the United States Army on October 21st, 2024. He entered service as a Satellite Communication (SATCOM) Systems Specialist, a vital role for the Army’s global communication capabilities. His military career began with ten weeks of Basic Combat Training, where he learned the fundamentals of being a Soldier. Following BCT, PFC Murray attended a 26-week Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Gordon, Georgia, the home of the Army’s Signal Corps. There, he delved into the technical intricacies of his field, learning to operate and maintain various types of sophisticated satellite communications equipment. Upon successful completion of his training, PFC Murray received his first duty assignment to Fort Buckner in Okinawa, Japan. He was assigned to the 78th Signal Battalion, a strategic unit responsible for providing and defending critical communication networks in the Pacific. As a SATCOM System Operator, his duties involve maintaining satellite communications equipment, including the Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS), to ensure the seamless flow of vital information for military operations across the Indo-Pacific theater. PFC Tristan J. Murray is survived by his mother, father, and sister. Our soldier. our brother, our son.2 |
| Obituary | ![]() Tristan James Murray, 18, of Knoxville, passed away while stationed in Okinawa, Japan on December 26th, 2025. He attended Hardin Valley Schools in Knoxville and was a graduate of the United States Army Cyber Center of Excellence as a SATCOM Systems Operator, 2025. He enlisted in the United States Army in October 2024. Tristan loved spending time with family and friends more than most anything. He was an outstanding cross country runner during his elementary and middle school years. He loved mountain biking, snowboarding and being on the lake and was overall happy to go anywhere at a moment’s notice. He was thrilled to be stationed in Okinawa, Japan to start his military career. Tristan’s big personality followed him no matter where he went and we will miss his enthusiastic quest for adventure and fun. Most notable was Tristan’s kind spirit and his loyalty to the people he loved! Tristan was preceded in death by Grandmother Susan Tackett and Grandfather James Tackett. He is survived by his Father and Mother, Stephen and Kelley Murray; sister Madison; half-brother Tyler Murray; Grandmother Martha Barnes; Grandfather; and Lalo, Gerald and Lonitta Barnes.
