Neal, Ardell, 74, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at his home. He was founder and owner of Neal's Jewelry in Oliver Springs, which he operated until his health became impaired. He was a master jeweler and watchmaker. Mr. Neal was born April 22, 1928, in Soddy-Daisy, and he was raised in Petros, the son of Ernest and Dorcas Neal. His father died three years after his birth. He was raised by his mother and grandparents, Joe and Nancy Ellen Daugherty. All are deceased. His family said he was a talented musician who had a great love for gospel music. Mr. Neal was a member and deacon of Tuppertown Baptist Church in Oliver Springs. He was also a member of the Clinch River Cherokee Council and the South Eastern Cherokee Council, Inc. He is survived by his wife, Lil Neal; his son, Marsie Neal of Oak Ridge; and his daughters, Juanita Patrick and her husband, Mike, and Teresa Pride and her husband, Phillip, all of Oliver Springs. Mr. Neal is also survived by his grandchildren, Garry Ashley and his wife, Theresa, Larry Ashley and his wife, Edwina, Verlon Cross II, Brad Neal and his wife, Chanda, Brian Neal and his wife, Christy, Jonathan Neal and his wife, Christina, Anita Wright and Erica Walker; his great-grandchildren, Chelsea Ashley, Shane Ashley, Brandy Neal, Ivy Neal, Tesa Neal, Jonathan Neal, Ronni Wright, Toni Wright and Alaysia Walker. John Davis, Sammy Joe Moore, Skip Starnes, Donna Forstrom, Marge Luttrell, Sharon Patterson and a trusted companion, Patches, were listed among his closest friends. In addition to his parents and grandparents, Mr. Neal was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Neal, Glen Neal and Marsie Neal. The family said a daughter has been missing since 1991. The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Oct. 4, in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev. Don Daugherty, the Rev. Ralph Wilson and the Rev. Mike Pride, officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Adcock Cemetery in Coalfield. The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Parkinson Disease Foundation of Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
