I do not know who these people were, but they look for all the world like they may have been related to my Peters family of Anderson County, Tennessee. The Peters family of Anderson County was founded by Tobias Peters Sr. 1776/79-1831 born in Virginia and by Henry Peters Sr. 1769-1851/59 born in Pennsylvania. The Tobias Peters age 50 from this census entry was already in Arkansas at the time of the 1840 census, and I cannot find him in the 1830 census, so there is no good indication of where in Tennessee he was from. Tobias Peters age 50 and Henry Peters age 27 from this census entry appear to have been father and son. Amelia age 40 does appear rather young to have been Henry's mother, but it's not impossible. Also, Amelia may not have been Tobias's first wife, especially given the gap in ages between Tobias age 13 and Hulda A. age 4. In addition to the names Tobias and Henry,I make special note of Hulda A. Peters age 4. My second great grandmother Hulda Asberine (Asberine) Cross. in Anderson County was about the same age as Hulda A. Peters. Hulda Asberine (Asberine) Cross married my second great grandfather John Henry Peters. But more importantly, Hulda Asberine (Asberine) Cross was a Peters herself (she married her second cousin). Which is to say, Hulda Asberine (Asberine) Cross was the daughter of Alfred Carter Cross and Zipporah Peters. So I wonder if Hulda A. Peters and Hulda Asberine (Asberine) Cross were cousins of some sort, both named for the same family member. If the middle name of Hulda A. Peters turns out to have been Asberine rather than something more typical such as Ann, that would cinch it. |
