Caswell Smith's wife was Sarah Ann Reed.  Sarah Ann Reed Smith married (2) Elijah J. Cross on 4 Mar 1872 in Anderson County, Tennessee.  Elijah J. Cross was the son of David L. Cross and Mary (Polly) Himes, both of Sullivan County, Tennessee.  As such, Elijah J. Cross was the grandson of my fourth great grandfather William Cross the Revolutionary War drummer boy.

Caswell P. Smith died in the Civil War on 25 May 1864 at the Andersonville, Georgia prison camp.

Elijah J. Cross paid taxes and apparently lived in Anderson County on land that had been owned by William Cross the drummer.  Elijah was a key player in an 1888 lawsuit between Cross family members over William's land.
