Isaiah Harrison was the son of my sixth great grandparents Jeremiah Harrison and Catherine Adams.  As such, he was the brother of my fifth great grandmother Lydia Donnell Harrison.

Mary Jones was Isaiah's third wife, with their marriage having taken place 26 Feb 1839 in Greene County.

Josiah Harrison was the son of Isaiah Harrison and Ethel Whittenburg who were living nearby (see p.7a, line 15 above).  Isaiah Harrison was the son of my sixth great grandparents Jeremiah Harrison and Catherine Adams.  As such, he was the brother of my fifth great grandmother Lydia Donnell Harrison.

Nancy Henshaw was the daughter of Washington Henshaw and Charlotta Malick.  Josiah and Nancy were married 20 Dec 1827 in Greene County.

 40-49 1 1791-1800 Peter H. Messamore Esq.

Peter H. Messamore Esq. was the son of my fifth great grandparents Jacob Messimer Sr. and Catherine Mauck.  As such, Peter was the brother of my fourth great grandfather William/Wilhelm Messamore.

Peter's wife was Nancy Fellers.  Nancy appears to have died before the 1840 census and after giving birth to a child who was born 1836/1840.

 30-39 1 1 1801-1810 James Pierce, Anny Green

James Pierce and Anny Green were my third great grandparents.  I do not know who the parents were for either one of them.

Nancy Ann Pierce was my second great grandmother.

I'm a little suspicious as to whether Marinda Pierce belongs in this family or not.  She was not enumerated with the family in 1850, but she was enumerated with the family in 1860.  Including her here clearly creates one too many females age 00-04.  Nancy Ann Pierce was the youngest girl, and she was born in 1839.  So she belongs in this census entry unless her birth date is wrong and she was really born after the 1840 census.

 20-29 1 1 1811-1820 Thomas Cox, Catherine White

Thomas Cox was the son of my fourth great grandparents Reuben Cox and Susannah Padgett.  As such, he was the brother of my third great grandfather Riley Cox.

No doubt, Thomas's son Reuben Cox was named for Thomas's father.

 20-29 1 1 1811-1820 Riley Cox, Frances (Franky) Price

I believe that this census entry must have been for Riley Cox rather than for Wiley Cox.  There was no Wiley Cox in my Cox family in Greene County, and Riley Cox is missing from the 1840 census if this was not him.

Riley was married in 1837 in Greene County, Tennessee and he was enumerated in 1850 in Greene County, Tennessee.  Also, the ages of the four people were correct to have been Riley Cox, Frances (Franky) Price, George Washington Cox, and John Tivis Cox.  Finally, this Cox family was living very close to Riley's parents Reuben Cox and Susannah Padgett.

Riley Cox age 20-29 and Frances (Franky) Price age 20-29 were my third great grandparents.  Riley's parents were the aforementioned Reuben Cox and Susannah PadgettFrances's parents were John Price Jr. and Susannah Garrett.

John Tivis Cox age 00-04 was my second great grandfather.

 15-19 0 0 1821-1825
 20-29 1 1 1811-1820 Smith Wheeler, Mary (Polly) Cox

Mary (Polly) Cox was the daughter of my fourth great grandparents Reuben Cox and Susannah Padgett who were living nearby (two lines away in the census).  As such, Mary was the brother of my third great grandfather Riley Cox.  It seems likely that Riley Wheeler was named for his uncle Riley Cox.

There was an additional daughter (or at least a young girl, if she wasn't a daughter) living with the family in 1840 as compared to 1850.  It seems likely that the additional girl in the 1840 census was a daughter who died before the 1850 census.

Smith Wheeler and Mary (Polly) Cox were married in 1832 in Wilkes County, North Carolina.  I do not know who Smith Wheeler's parents were.

 40-49 0 0 1790-1800
 50-59 1 1 1780-1790 Reuben Cox, Susannah Padgett

Reuben Cox and Susannah Padgett were my fourth great grandparents.  My third great grandfather Riley Cox had already married and moved out at the time of the 1840 census.

Reuben and Susannah were both born and raised in Wilkes County, North Carolina, and they were married in Wilkes County in 1805.  I am not certain of Reuben's parents, but my most likely candidate for his father is a Thomas Cox Sr. of Wilkes County.  Susannah Padgett was the daughter of James Padgett and Lucy of Wilkes County.  Thomas Cox and James Padgett lived very close to each other in early North Carolina censuses.
