James E. Pierce age 56 was my third great grandfather.  My third great grandmother was his first wife Anny Green.  Experience (Spriddy) Wells age 39 was his third wife.

Spriddy Wells was the widow of Aaron Cox at the time she married James E. Pierce, but her first husband was Thomas Mitchell.  Lorinda Mitchell age 16 and Claudius C. Mitchell age 13 were the children of Spriddy Wells.  Claudius C. Mitchell was the son of Aaron Cox.  I do not know why Claudius's name was listed as Claudius C. Mitchell rather than as Claudius C. Cox.  Also, the 1850 marriage of James E. Pierce was to Spitty Mitchell, rather than to Spitty Cox.  Claudius was listed as Claudius Mitchell in the 1860 census, but as Claudius Cox in the 1880 census.

Nancy Ann Pierce age 18 was my second great grandmother who married John Tivis Cox.  Her mother was Anny Green, who was the first wife of James PierceNancy Ann Pierce's stepbrother Claudius C. Mitchell/Cox and her husband John Tivis Cox were first cousins.

Joseph Harrison age 19 was my second great grandfather.  He later moved to Jefferson County, Tennessee and married my second great grandmother Susan A. Slaton.

This census entry provides evidence that the family moved from Rockingham County, Virginia to Greene County, Tennessee about 1857/1858.  In particular, Casper M. Harrison age 3 was born in Virginia about 1857 and Catharine Harrison age 2 was born in Tennessee about 1858.

Reuben Cox and Susannah Padgett were my fourth great grandparents.  It is most curious that this census entry says that they were born in South Carolina.  All other records say that they were born in North Carolina.  I believe that Reuben was the son of Thomas Cox, but this is not yet proven.  Susannah was the son of my fifth great grandparents James Padgett and Lucy.

Mary (Polly) Cox was the daughter of Reubin Cox and Susannah Padgett, and the widow of Smith Wheeler.  She also was almost certainly born in North Carolina.
